A message from CCNI President, Brian Bennett
This week, I found deep encouragement in reflecting on Philippians 1:6: “…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
What a powerful truth: God is both the Author and the Finisher. He doesn’t leave His work undone. I don’t know about you, but I need that reminder. It calls me to let go of striving in my own strength and instead lean into the Spirit’s strength, power, and perseverance.
This truth applies not only to our transformation into Christlikeness, but also to our callings—like the call to coach others. In Leaders Who Last, Dave Kraft shares a metaphor of three types of boats to illustrate how we move through life and leadership:
- The Motorboat – Fast, forceful, and self-powered.
- The Raft – Drifting, aimless, and without direction.
- The Sailboat – Dependent on the wind, discerners of its movement, moving
forward by power not their own.
As Christian coaches, may we be sailboats—positioned in surrender, attentive to the Spirit’s direction, and moving not by our power, but by the empowerment of God.
The Greek word for “complete” in Philippians 1:6, ἐπιτελέω, means to bring to full purpose, to finish, to perfect. God is doing exactly that in us. He’s not only transforming us in Christlikeness (2 Corinthians 3:18), but He is also fulfilling the good works He prepared for us to walk in (Ephesians 2:10), and this includes coaching!
So take heart! As you say yes and walk in faith and obedience to your callings, God is completing in you his purposes and we are honored to become a partner with clients in supporting God’s active work in their lives!
