Throughout my career I have often talked about the difference between management and leadership. There are plenty of books, articles, and ideas that provide some framework or narrative about that difference, but one of the easiest ways to understand it is, Leaders have a vision for the future. Why is that important? Because as Christian Coaches it is imperative that all of us begin to grow a bigger vision for what we are doing. As Christian Coaches we have an opportunity to set the culture as we help people by way of our skills and commitment to Christian Coaching. As my friend and previous president of CCNI, Michael Marx, would say, “Trust the Client – Trust the Process – Trust the Holy Spirit.” That right there is a clear and useable vision statement for all of us.
Do you see what is possible through your coaching? Do you see what is possible when Christian Coaches stand united to help each other, help others, and trust the Holy Spirit? Consider for a moment how powerful our work can be and should be. Our work has the potential to make our world a better place.
Brain research has shown that imagination, your imagination, is a pathway to making great things happen. When you can picture something in your mind, (vision), and then work toward that idea, then it is far more likely that what you picture will become a reality. If you can’t see it then it is much more difficult to make it happen. Well, God gave you the ability to create and hold a vision in your mind. It is a wonderful ability that you have – so let’s work and pray together as we imagine all of us, building a culture where Christ is at the center and we, as Christian Coaches, are on the front lines of the battle making a positive difference for others. As Dave Ramsey has said, “Pray like it all depends on God, but work like it all depends on you.”
We have this opportunity, every day, to build and work toward our vision for the future. What we envision is not only about our individual coaching, but it should be about all of us building a unified vision where our work has a positive impact on our clients, friends, community, country and world. We work and pray together as we actively seek God’s participation to help us build our vision and bring it into reality. When we are working and praying together like that, then we will look through spiritual eyes, and see a future that looks pretty good.
