Discipleship Coaching Begins With Your Kingdom Confession

by Dr. R.A. Weigel

Mark 8:34-38 (NLT) – Then Jesus called the crowd to himself along with his disciples. He said to them, “Those who want to follow me must say no to the things they want, pick up their crosses, and follow me. 35Those who want to save their lives will lose them. But those who lose their lives for me and for the Good News will save them. 36What good does it do for people to win the whole world yet lose their lives? 37Or what should a person give in exchange for life? 38If people are ashamed of me and what I say in this unfaithful and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of those people when he comes with the holy angels in his Father’s glory.”

The Importance of Your Confession.

What is currently happening in our country is overwhelmingly sinful. There was a time when the basics of Christian values were part of everyday life. That has gone way and now… America needs a great awakening.

We need Christian coaches who will talk about Jesus.

In my opinion and from what I see and sense, unless that great awakening that takes place soon, then things for Christians will get difficult. There will be persecutions that will cause many to no longer confess they are Christian and already… too many people are afraid to mention Jesus.

Discipline coaching is more than just reaching out… it’s also your future, your safety, your ability to have a good life, and safety for your life. It’s more than just helping… it’s surviving.

Many Christians are unprepared for the pressures of the world that will come against Christians in the not-too-distant future. It’s inevitable unless something changes and that change starts here, with us, in our work as Christian coaches, where we are not afraid to talk about Jesus – in our coaching.

You have to publicly confess Jesus in your coaching. You should demonstrate that you’re a Christian. There is no room anymore for undercover Christians or people who want to say Jesus on Sunday but won’t say his name any other day of the week.

Look at this with eyes to see and you’ll recognize that people throughout the world don’t mind you talking about God because then they can figure out that it really doesn’t mean much. But when you talk about Jesus… you’re laying all your cards on the table. When you talk about Jesus then people know what you believe, and they have been trained by the world and the culture to fear that name and push against anyone who declares Jesus as Lord.

When you talk about Jesus you upset the demons… because they hate the name and power of Jesus. The name of Jesus means something when every other name means nothing. There is no power in the name of Mohammed or Krishna, or any of the world’s false gods. There is power only in the name of Jesus so when you speak that name in your coaching… that’s when something happens — every time. When you confess Jesus — everyone knows who and what you are.

Affirming Jesus

Do you have a wedding ring? That ring tells others that you’re married, and you’ve made that commitment. If you took that ring off before going on a business trip it means you’re sending a clear message that you’re not willing to honor your commitment. Currently, there are too many Christians who are “married” into the family of God but refuse to show the ring — that they’ve taken an oath or commitment to Jesus. If you’re a Christian you can’t be married one day a week and the same is true with your coaching, you can’t confess Jesus only one day a week.

Every Christians is going to be tested about who they are and who they belong to. That is the way things work. That’s what’s really happening right now. You’re being tested! As the world grows darker, you will be tested even more. As the world grows darker, your decision to use your coaching for discipleship should become stronger.

Our society and culture have trained you to compartmentalize your life and be a Christian only at certain times. They want you to pretend that you’re a Christian only at certain times and they have convinced too many Christians, and Christian coaches, that they can’t talk about Jesus outside of the church or when the client says it’s okay. But you have to talk about Jesus and being a Christian coach means you’re going to talk about Jesus and you’re doing to disciple coach not only when it’s convenient, but all the time.

You can’t take off your father hat or mother hat — and you can’t take off your Christian coaching hat either. You can’t say you’re a father or mother only when it suits you. You can’t say you’re a husband or wife only when it suits you. You can’t say you’re a Christian coach only when it suits the culture. You’re to confess to others you are a Christ follower – a Christian coach who helps disciple people through your coaching.

Remember, when you deny Christ — then he will deny you to the father. Matthew 10:33 (NLT) – But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.

Undercover Christians have trouble getting their prayers answered because they want to pretend to be Christian, but they won’t confess or commit to being a Christian. Prayers are not heard when you’re not committed. Your future as a Christian coach is not secure until you use your coaching for God’s purposes.

The key to discipleship is no longer compartmentalizing Jesus.

It’s always being ready to confess Jesus as your lord.

Not some of the time… but all the time.

Acts 2:21 (NLT) – Then whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
