Coaching Program Recognition

Recognition is a voluntary process wherein a comprehensive and objective 3rd party peer review is used to determine whether a Christian coach training program meets certain quality standards.

If you would like to apply for recognition for your school or program, please submit your request by contacting director@christiancoaches.com and stating your intention.

Goals of the Recognition Program

  1. To promote excellence and a common standard of quality for Christian education based on a core set of skills and body of knowledge that is congruent with industry standards.
  2. To help build consistency and a unified approach to the training, program development, and certification of coaching competencies in the Christian market in a manner that overlays the benchmarks set by the industry.
  3. To ensure coaches are equally prepared to coach professionally regardless of the market served (secular or faith-based.)
  4. To provide public assurance that Christian coaches are trained to coach at industry standards.

FAQs

What type of coach training programs may apply?

  • ICF-accredited programs that want to carry the added distinction of excellence in the Christian coaching markets.
  • Christian coach training organizations who do not wish to be accredited by the general market yet are seeking assurance of a quality training program and effective learning outcomes that prepare students to offer professional Christian coaching. These programs must use the core competencies as defined by the ICF as a coaching skills foundation and framework.
  • Church or ministry-related coaching programs. These programs must use the core competencies as defined by the ICF as a coaching skills foundation and framework.
  • Academic coach certification programs that want assurance their curriculum will move their students from theory into real-world application. These programs must use the core competencies as defined by the ICF as a coaching skills foundation and framework.

What is the process involved with having my program recognized?

Here is a general overview of the steps involved in the Recognition Program process:

  1. CCNI follows the steps below in the administration of the Recognition Process.
  2. Organization contacts CCNI at director@christiancoaches.com to advise of intent to apply.
  3. CCNI Director establishes contact and reviews for the following minimum criteria.
    1. Agency is a faith based organization
    2. Website reviews of organization
    3. Check organization LinkedIn profile(s) and general internet research on quality of institution
    4. Obtain contact information and gather general information
  4. CCNI Director submits contact information to Program Recognition Board (PRB).
  5. CCNI Director sends accreditation packet to organization.
  6. Organization completes and submits the packet to CCNI Director in duplicate or electronic format.
  7. CCNI Director circulates the packet to the PRB.
  8. PRB reviews for criteria listed above. The typical review time is six months.
  9. PRB recommends to the CCNI Director on the satisfaction of review and recommends organization be approved, denied, or to provide substantiating documentation for further review.

What is the role of the Recognition Program Board?

This leadership team consists of up to three coaching and training professionals who have agreed to serve as leaders in this capacity for a term of two years and who have agreed to abide by strict code of professional conduct including confidentiality and conflict of interest restrictions.  The integrity and confidentiality of the applicant’s proprietary curriculum is held in highest regard and strictly safeguarded. Under no circumstances, can a leadership team member be currently engaged in development of their own coach training curriculum as this would be a conflict of interest.

The leadership team serves to review and recommend applicants who desire to obtain CCNI program recognition status as defined by CCNI qualifications and standards. As such, the leadership team reviews curriculum and measures it against CCNI recognition program policy and standards.  Applicants must demonstrate their ability to produce graduates who are able to coach at a professional level and within the guidelines of Christian principles as adopted by CCNI. The leadership team works directly with the applying school or program representative to help ensure requirements for curriculum, faculty, program administration, evaluation, and assessment have been fully documented in order to recommend recognition status to the CCNI Director for final approval.

  • To demonstrate their commitment to maintaining their program’s quality and that their programs are performing at the level required by the coaching industry.
  • Promotes “best practices”.
  • Provides for self-assessment and continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Is based on “learning outcomes,” rather than “teaching inputs”.
  • To provide the public the opportunity of knowing that training programs have met certain criteria and are judged.
  • For the program, Recognized status establishes its validity and integrity.

For the Student

  • Verifies that the quality of training you’ve received meets the standards of the profession.
  • Assists them in weeding out ineffective coach training.
  • Prepares the student with the same knowledge base as general market industry standard coaching for ease of transfer to general market credentials.

For CCNI Members

  • Evidence of CCNI’s commitment to promoting standards of excellence across all domains.
  • Assurance that CCNI is actively working toward building a unified approach in the Christian coaching industry.
  • To ensure that non-academic, non-ICF accredited programs have met certain standards necessary to produce graduates who have the skills to earn CCNI credentials.
